  2. 1/3 cup Tamarind extract
  3. 1 Medium sized Tomato chopped
  4. 1 Medium sized Onion chopped(You can also use Shallots)
  5. 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  6. 2 tsp Sambar Powder
  7. leaves few Curry
  8. leaves Few Coriander
  9. 4 tsp Groundnut Oil
  10. 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  11. 5 Fenugreek seeds
  12. 1/3 tsp Asafoetida
  13. as per taste Salt
  14. as required Water

Instructions to make to make Instant Sambar/ Tiffin Sambar

  1. Wash and soak the dal for 30 mins. If using toor dal soak for 1 hour.
  2. In a stove place a cooker. Switch on the flame.
  3. Add oil. Once oil gets heat add mustard seeds,fenugreek, and asafoetida. Fry it.
  4. Add onions and curry leaves. Mix and cook till onions becomes translucent.
  5. Add chopped tomato, turmeric powder and sambar powder mix well. Cook for 2mins.
  6. Add the dal,mix well and then add tamarind extract. Add enough water and salt.
  7. Close the pressure cooker and leave for 8 whistles. For Toor dal 15 whistles.
  8. After the pressure goes off open and check for sambar consistency. If it has more water allow it to boil again.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with idlis and dosas.
